Middle School Physical Education Teacher

 

This position is exempt and has supervisory responsibility

Reports To: School Principal

Job Summary:

Our mission at Desert View Schools is to Educate students with Knowledge, Empower students with Character, and Equip students for Life. The Middle School Physical Education Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering a developmentally appropriate physical education program for grades 6–8. This role promotes physical fitness, sportsmanship, teamwork, and healthy lifestyle habits while providing a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment for all students.

Essential Functions of the Job:

·         Develop and implement standards-based P.E. curriculum aligned to Arizona State Standards.

·         Teach students fundamental movement skills, physical fitness concepts, and basic rules of various sports.

·         Create engaging, structured activities that promote cooperation, skill-building, and personal fitness.

·         Maintain a positive and respectful classroom environment that encourages student participation.

·         Model and reinforce good sportsmanship, respect, teamwork, and healthy habits.

·         Ensure safe use, care, and organization of equipment and P.E. spaces (indoor and outdoor).

·         Adapt instruction to meet the needs of students with varying physical and academic abilities.

·         Communicate effectively with students, staff, and families.

·         Supervise students during class, transition areas, and other areas..

·         Participate in schoolwide events, staff meetings, and ongoing professional development.

 

Essential Qualifications:

  •  Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Physical Education, or related field preferred but not required.
  •  Current IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card (required).
  • -Experience working with middle school students preferred.

Essential Physical Functions and Working Conditions    

·         Must be able to remain in a stationary position at least 15% of the time

·         Must be able to traverse whenever necessary to fulfill the needs of the position 

·         Must be able to operate a computer and other electronic devices, which will require repetitive motions 

·         Must be able to position yourself to assist staff, students, or perform other duties as assigned

·         Will regularly perform duties that require repetitive motion

·         Must be able to communicate, this is both by being able to talk and to hear, and to be able to observe your surroundings

·         May need to transport boxes, computer equipment, and any other equipment necessary to fulfill the essential functions of the job
